4 Powerful Ayurvedic Ingredients to Relieve Dry Skin

Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing systems in the world and is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Within Ayurveda is a deep reliance on natural ingredients to help relieve ailments and this includes the skin and hair. Here are some simple Ayurvedic ingredients that help to moisturise and nourish dry skin. 

Neem Leaves 

Neem leaves are natural moisturisers; they contain high levels of essential fatty acids and vitamin E which can make even seriously dry skin moisturised and visibly plump. Not only do they help in treating dry skin, they also have antibacterial properties and reduce flakiness as well as extreme dryness. You can use it by incorporating it into your night time routine by applying Neem oil every night before bed or as a DIY face mask, mixing it in a paste format with a small amount of turmeric and coconut oil. 

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is made up of a large percentage of water, which makes it an excellent hydrating agent and a perfect choice for dry skin. Use aloe vera gel directly on your skin especially on dry patches and you will notice an instant burst of hydration.

Almonds

In recent years coconut has been in the spotlight across the Western world. However, it has been used in South-Asian cultures for centuries and is the go-to moisturiser for many. So many children (ourselves included) grew up with coconut oil being massaged into our hair (and skin) by our mothers who knew of its emollient properties. An emollient is a substance that is able to create a smooth surface by filling in the gaps in the skin cells. Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids which help hydrate the skin and therefore improve its lipid content.
